Run across before the bus leaves: Catching this bus is not worth replacing your normal crossing checks with a rushed decision.

Use the normal safe crossing routine, even if you miss the bus: Exactly. The timetable does not change the traffic. Cross only when the route is genuinely safe.

Follow someone else across without checking: Another person's timing cannot replace your own safe crossing check.

Move alongside it while it is still rolling: Keep back from the kerb. Board only when the bus has stopped to let passengers on.

Wait back until it has stopped and is ready for boarding: Good. A fully stopped bus gives you a stable moment to approach and board.

Touch the door so the driver knows you are there: Do not approach a moving vehicle. Wait in the passenger area until the bus stops.

Step out immediately because the bus has stopped: A stopped bus does not stop every movement beside it. Check for cyclists and other traffic first.

Pause, look both ways and step out only when the space is safe: Strong awareness. Traffic in a bus or cycle lane may come from an unexpected direction.

Step out if you cannot hear anything: Listening helps, but bicycles can be quiet. Look carefully in every possible direction.

Cross directly in front of the bus: The bus can hide moving traffic from you and hide you from drivers.

Cross directly behind the bus: You still cannot see the whole road, and approaching drivers may not see you.

Wait for the bus to move away, then find a clear place and check both directions: Exactly. Regain a clear view before making a separate crossing decision.
